Pre-Professional Concentration

PRE-PROFESSIONAL CONCENTRATION

The Bachelor of Science Public Health program offers a Pre-Professional concentration for those who are interested in pursuing a professional degree in clinical medicine (medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, physician assistant, pharmacy, and physical therapy).

This concentration prepares students with public health competencies while also preparing students for entry into graduate professional schools.  Students will simultaneously meet the pre-requisites for the professional degree while getting a degree in public health.  The preparatory courses for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and other professional schools are covered as a part of EKU general education, the public health core, and supporting courses.

The overall curriculum of this Pre-Professional concentration focuses on:

  • Biological, social and economic determinants of health
  • Prevention and control of diseases
  • Methods of health promotion
  • Health communication
  • Biostatistics and epidemiology
  • Public health internship opportunities

Each of these components makes this program a highly desirable preparatory option for students interested in attending professional schools. Its unique features open up new opportunities and offer competitive advantages for a student seeking to enter into clinical medicine.
